Markets to grow on us

Christmas launch at harbour

- CHANTAY LOGAN

TWO new markets will launch in Tweed Heads this month.

The Tweed Heads Farmers Market debuts on Saturday and will run on the first and third Saturday of the month, followed by the Tweed Festive Twilight Market popping up on December 11 and operating on the second and fourth Friday.

The family-friendly markets will transform Jack Evans Boat Harbour into a hub for locally grown foods, handcrafted art and live music.

Tweed Heads Farmers Market manager Tony Horrigan said the scenic setting would be the ideal place to meet up with friends, bring kids to the playground and unwind beside the Tweed River, with live music by Juzzie Smith.

“It’s a beautiful thing to be able to offer an event that brings the community together and adds to the visitor experience,” he said.

“We have such an impressive array of local produce and eclectic foodie delights across the Tweed, and we’re really looking forward to bringing this riverside.

“To top it off we’ll also have live music with the legendary one-man band, Juzzie Smith, kicking off our first market this weekend.”

The Tweed Festive Twilight Market was designed to put Tweed local makers front and centre for Christmas shoppers.

Organiser Peita Gardiman, founder of the successful Murwillumbah Makers and Finders Market, said the Twilight Markets would feature fairy lights, food, music and local designs.

“Our markets are all about honest producers, makers, shapers, creators and other passionate individuals who want to share their gift with the community. We’ll have 100 local makers lining the scenic harbour selling creative, handmade gifts ranging from ceramics and jewellery to vintage clothing and artworks.

“If you’re keen to pick up some unique, handmade gifts this Christmas that you know nobody else can find, this will be a good one to get all that shopping done. There will also be a smorgasbord of cuisines on offer from a range of food vendors.”

Both markets will be at the Jack Evans Boat Harbour, Bay St, Tweed Heads.
