UP THERE WITH BEST

- KYLE WISNIEWSKI

TRAINERS have hailed today’s Hollindale Stakes as up there with the Cox Plate, in a sign the Gold Coast Cup is growing in stature. Candice Dixon, jockey Jag Guthmann-Chester and Ella Cohen will be among the thousands enjoying today’s race day, which kicks off the Queensland winter carnival.

ONE of the biggest days on the racing calendar at Gold Coast Turf Club will draw thousands of spectators today — and the action will be just as hot off the track as on it.

A swag of proven Group 1 performers will compete in the headline race, the $500,000 Hollindale Stakes at Aquis Park,

Bundall. The meeting will also launch the Queensland Winter Racing Carnival. However, the nine-race card will include off-track attractions such as the House of Heineken, pop-up bars, food trucks and the inaugural fashion luncheon showcasing the Fashions on the Field.

Hosts include TV personality Candice Dixon, radio host Emily Jade O’Keeffe, Bachelor in Paradise star

Jake Ellis and stylist Kimberly Gardner as the Fashions on the Field judge.

Aquis Park racing manager Ian Brown said the Gold Coast Cup would continue to adhere to COVID-safe plans and follow Queensland Health advice to ensure the health and wellbeing of members, guests, staff and racing participants.

“After the decision to postpone the scheduling of the winter carnival, including the Gold Coast Cup, in 2020 due to COVID-19, this year’s race day promises to be our most exciting edition,” he said.

“More than $1m in prize money is on offer and the day provides guests with the opportunity to see Australia’s leading jockeys, trainers and horses in action.” For tickets, visit gctc.com.au/ event/heineken-gold-coast-cup
