BOBBY OBLIVIOUS TO MUM’S BIG DAY
IF his first game is anything to go by, Gretel Bueta’s son will be completely oblivious if his mum gets the perfect Mother’s Day present.
Just four months old, Bobby Bueta slept through much of his mum’s Super Netball return last week, his headphones leaving him blissfully unaware of more than 3400 screaming fans as the Queensland Firebirds suffered a heartbreaking extra-time loss to the NSW Swifts.
Bueta will celebrate her first Mother’s Day doing what she loves as four generations of her family come together.
In front of her nanna Pat Moy, mum Janet Tippett and Bobby – who was born in January to Bueta and husband Niko – the champion netballer will try to add the icing to a “really special” first Mother’s Day by helping the Firebirds to a win over the Adelaide Thunderbirds at Brisbane’s Nissan Arena on Sunday.
“He’s been very good to us. Mum keeps telling me how lucky we are,” Bueta said of her “cruisy” boy.
The 27-year-old made a staggering comeback last week just four months after a caesarean birth, finishing with 16 goals – three of them super shots – as well as 17 goal assists and 23 circle feeds in a busy 44 minutes on court.
“It was really hard (to know what to expect) when I was pregnant, so it was just ‘what will be, will be’ but every training session I had back I felt just that little bit better the whole time,” Bueta said.
“It was really well planned out for me. I’m very blessed and grateful for the support staff of the
Firebirds who took time to get me back.”
