FOUR SEASONS IN ONE PARTY STAY

FANS of the hit musical Jersey Boys are in for a treat when the show opens at The Star Gold Coast in January.

How do we know? Last Saturday night renowned hotelier Erhard Hotter staged a spectacular birthday at Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort inviting long-time friends to enjoy a party like no other.

The setting was significant because it was that hotel that really launched Erhard’s career and made The Sheraton one of the great hotels in Australia at that time.

For Rudolph Nureyev, Michael Caine, Peter Allen, Joan Collins, Steffi Graf, Richard Pratt and other greats, it was the only place to stay during those years.

Part of the entertainment was a selection of songs from the musical by the cast of Jersey Boys and led by Thomas Armstrong-Robley (pictured with Erhard Hotter).

If the story and music of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons is your cup of tea, don’t miss out when it opens in early January. They are seriously good.

KEEPING ERNEST, WELL, ERNEST

SPEAKING of retired general managers, here is a story about Ernst Pfister (former GM at Sea World Resort).

We have it on very good authority that every time we mention him in this column he receives a fine from some of the social clubs of which he is a member.

This week, he managed to score his very first hole in one on the par-3, 15th hole at the Arundel Hills Country Club. We are reliably informed his natural enthusiasm for all things in life went up several notches when it rolled in.

Sorry EP, if you don’t want the publicity, don’t put it in the hole.

LOOKING TO TURN FASHION DREAM INTO REALITY

SIMONE Hickey is on a mission: To give our city an enduring Gold Coast Fashion Week that represents the vibrancy and a passion for fashion that makes us so unique.

“The Gold Coast Fashion Project is the vehicle and with Chevron Renaissance coming on board as a major sponsor there are plans to run four big shows,” said Simone (right).

“We have designers signed up to attend from Melbourne,

Brisbane and New Zealand and interest from many others around the country.

“Auditions for models will be held on February 7 at Chevron Renaissance and anyone can register by going to the Gold Coast Fashion Project website and social media platforms.

“Photographers, models, make-up artists and, of course, designers will all be involved in the shows which will run late

April to early May next year. We are all very excited to make this dream a reality for the city.”

NOT EVEN A NIBBLE FOR $5

ONCE again the very rich have shown why they are very different.

One of our friends in hospitality received a phone call requesting catering for a function to be held in his luxury apartment.

The immediate question

was how much was the budget. “Between $5 and $10 per head.”

Somewhat startled by the amount she queried that she had heard correctly and was assured that was all he wanted to spend for his, wait for it, 10 guests.

She very politely suggested he would be better off getting in his car and going to the drive-through of the closest fast-food franchise.

Let’s hope the junior burgers keep warm and the mini ice-cream cones don’t melt on the drive home.

TREASURE, DRUMMER, GENTLEMAN

THE passing of Rolling Stones drummer Charlie Watts this week was particularly poignant for Thea Jeanes-Cochrane and her husband Tony.

Our dynamic duo worked with The Stones when they toured Exhibitionism, the unique memorabilia and artefacts show put together to chronicle the life and times of the greatest rock ‘n’ roll band in the world.

“We were both very saddened to hear about the passing of the great Charlie Watts,” said Thea. “He was a treasure, one of a kind and on top of being the heartbeat of The Stones.

“He was a talented artist and designer and above all things a true gentleman. It was such a pleasure to be in Charlie’s presence. Always humble and kind, I feel very honoured to have had the great pleasure to have known him through our journeys.

“Our thoughts are with his family – Shirley, Serafuna and Charlotte – at this time.”

One of the great ones.
