TITANS ON A JOURNEY DRIVEN BY CULTURE

-

THE Gold Coast Titans announced at the annual Paul Broughton Medal awards night that the club’s primary purpose was to make Gold Coasters proud of their team. Regardless of what happens against the Sydney Roosters tonight, the 2021 Titans have delivered that in spades.

As so eloquently put by the godfather of Gold Coast Rugby League, Paul Broughton, this club has made incredible strides in a short span.

At the same dinner two years ago, the club searched for anything at all to celebrate after an annus horribilis that ended with the wooden spoon.

There was nothing but AJ Brimson, Moeaki Fotuaika, Phillip Sami and the hope that better times would come.

The club’s fortunes are unrecognisable since then.

A first team who thrilled fans with a rollercoaster of a regular season that secured the most important win of the club’s recent history with a 44-0 vindication of all the coaches had preached.

Preston and Jayden Campbell became the first father and son combination to play for the NRL’S newest club, a historic milestone for a club still fighting for legitimacy in the eyes of outsiders.

The disability- and intellectual disability teams, with standout players honoured on the same stage as the club’s able-bodied heroes.

And the final highlight of the night, the unveiling of a new NRLW squad that will provide heroes to women and girls all across the Coast.

How far the Titans have come in two years – and with plenty more in store. Go Titans!

RE AFGHANISTAN – after reading General Angus Campbell’s remarks this week in the press, it is difficult to understand how he is still in this top job. He and Biden must be the only people in the world that did not see this coming And I agree with John Howard. This is the beginning of the end of America as a power. Sad but true

ONCE again the Mayor and the council have been found wanting.

The so-called development of Main Beach is a mess, compounded now by the takeover of Cable Park by a high-rise developer. A development that would not have gone ahead according to the then rules that said a developer had to operate within the boundaries of the parcel of land that they owned.

Cr Taylor claims to have met with community leaders and historical society members. Let them come forward.

Mr Taylor has also indicated that concept drawings for the upgrade have been completed and approved. Publish them, let’s all have a look. Won’t happen.

We may not be around in three years time.

SHAUN Cunneen’s amusing letter (GCB 07/09) is a classic example of a left-wing hypocrite, who in the past, like many other naive lefties, bagged the dynamic, courageous Donald Trump, and instead heralded their praises to the incoming Joe Biden and the Democrats.

However, now that Sleepy Joe has made an unforgivable blunder regarding the shameful exodus of war-torn Afghanistan, Mr Cunneen now suddenly has a change of heart and writes, quote: “I now find myself in the uncomfortable position of wishing Trump did win the US election.”

Obviously Shaun is one of those dreaded swing voters by choice, who are the most unpredictable come election day and make a careless, erratic decision at the very last moment and then live to regret it, and the wise ones have to suffer with a government wrongly elected. any reasonable doubt? I refer to the fact that the government and/or states have in place a policy that when a death occurs they assume, yes assume, the death was caused by the virus without an autopsy performed.

I ask – what if the death was not due to the virus, but by the flu or indeed some other cause?

I am now in a dilemma that there may have been deaths reported as caused by the virus that were not the virus.

So may I conclude that the numbers have been deliberately inflated to increase the fear campaign and hence more control over our rapidly decreasing freedoms.

This increases my assumption we are being misled by over zealous politicians to promote their fear campaign and control over us.
