REMBER WHEN GOLD COAST BULLETIN

THE ASF Consortium behind the Gold Coast’s $5bn cruise ship terminal proposal started community consultation on the controversial project.
Phone surveys and focus groups were conducted by Newspoll with 2800 people until late April when the results were to be presented to the Gold Coast City Council.
ASF Consortium project director Alan Fife said consultation would take in the perspective of “grassroots” residents, stakeholders and the council on topics such as the location of the terminal.
“Consultation is critical for the success of this project,” Mr Fife said.
“We’ve had the opportunity to present our proposal to the City of
Gold Coast, have listened to feedback and are addressing key points, such as alternative locations for the cruise ship terminal.
“As a result, two potential locations are being considered on the waterfront off
Doug Jennings Park and the east side of Wavebreak Island.
“The Newspoll survey will feature a series of sequential, logical and pertinent questions which will be framed in a way which is not leading.
“Certainly from Newspoll’s
perspective, they will not allow anything to impinge on the integrity of the process.”
ASF made a presentation to the council almost two months after the Bulletin revealed designs of the Broadwater Marine Project.
The consortium modified its design to remove a terminal from Doug Jennings Park at the request of Mayor Tom Tate.
The council vowed to perform its own extensive consultation after ASF completed its survey.
