Jail for Halloween rape horror

- LEA EMERY

A SECURITY guard left a woman bruised and bleeding after raping her as she slept at a Gold Coast Halloween party.

She has been unable to work due to the trauma of the attack and feels uncomfortable in her own apartment.

Gaven Scott Willis-wilson pleaded guilty in the Southport District Court on Tuesday to one count of rape.

The court was told the woman attended a Halloween costume party on the Gold Coast on October 30, 2020.

Willis-wilson was also there and they met that night.

During the party the woman drank alcohol and consumed cannabis.

About 12.30am she spoke to her daughter about ordering an Uber but was told she could sleep at the home of the party.

She fell asleep fully clothed and alone.

The court was told WillisWilson was on top of her when she woke, and that her pants and underwear had been removed.

She yelled at him to get off. When Willis-wilson asked if she wanted to keep going she said “no” and started to leave.

Willis-wilson grabbed her as she tried to leave but the woman shoved him off.

The woman noted bleeding when she got home.

She went to the hospital but left after waiting for a long period of time and went to a GP.

The GP referred her back to the hospital.

The woman was examined 16 hours after the attack.

Doctors found she was covered in hickeys around her neck, had bruises on her tights, and cuts and abrasions in her genital area.

Willis-wilson’s DNA was found in saliva on the woman’s neck.

Judge Deborah Holliday said the victim impact statement supplied to the court showed the attack had a “profound affect” on the woman.

Willis-wilson was sentenced to six years’ prison with parole eligibility on April 4, 2024. He has spent 78 days in pre-sentence custody.
