What time do you wake up on a Saturday? 5am. Make a coffee, milk first, two teaspoons of Moccona Number 5, one sugar, then add the hot water but don’t stir. Sit on the couch looking through the day’s racing. Then I have my five Weet-bix with sugar and another coffee. That’s my start to a happy Saturday.

Where and when do you exercise? I push a few weights around and sweat it out in the sauna at the Sanctuary Cove Country Club. It’s really a gym with a fancy name.

What’s your go-to weekend breakfast? My breakfast never changes, no matter where I am in the world. I even travel with Moccona Number 5, sugar and Weet-bix.

Favourite park/green space and why? I love bushwalking. I love the tracks around the Scenic Rim and Springbrook National Park. Get there and check it out!

Best park to go with kids? If it wasn’t the playground at Maccas, my wife Sheree and I would head to the beach with Boston, 15, with a variety of games, footy, flags and sandcastle building championships.

Local coffee haunt? I never buy coffee, but Madisons Cafe, Broadbeach, has amazing food to enjoy with your coffee. My go-to is the USA Burger, any time of the day.

Favourite takeaway? You can’t go past Mike’s Kitchen at Merrimac, on the GC. The ribs there would turn any vegetarian. Don’t go the half serve, you have to do the full.

Best spot for date night and why? I love a good walk along the beach, holding hands, stopping occasionally for a hug and kiss. No, no, not really! A day at the races is the best date day ever.

Best beach and why? For me, it has to be the top end of Main Beach as there are no casting shadows later in the day from high-rises, it’s a lot quieter and easy to find a park.

Favourite sports venue? Sorry, Queensland. The MCG is the best in the world. That Melbourne sports precinct is unbelievable.

Favourite live music venue? I like a good Day on the Green. Wine, beer, music and all that outdoors.

Favourite place to holiday or hidden treasure in Queensland?

Lady Elliot Island for the marine life. It’s amazing and set up so well. At the same time, I love the Outback so get yourself to Longreach and experience the real Australia. Learn about Qantas and the Australian stockman. Camp at the showgrounds for awesome sunsets and sunrises.

What’s your perfect Saturday? Wake up 5am, breakfast, get the papers and study the racing guide. Do the gardening at home, watch the horse racing, grab some takeaway, watch the AFL. Put a fork in me, I’m done. A simple man but I love it.
