Elle Ferguson

Influencer and beauty entrepreneur

- Fashion editor ANNABEL FALCO

When it comes to Australian fashion icons, Elle Ferguson’s tanned limbs and enviable wardrobe come to mind.

She creates street-style magic, mingling denim on denim and designer wear. From bohemian Isabel Marant dresses and Balenciaga shoes through to layers of Babyanything jewels and vintage accessories, Elle’s wardrobe is a lesson in style and organisation where every piece tells a story, has a history and a place. Despite her glossy image and Instagram account, Elle has worked hard for her time at the top, where her true sense of style cements her fashion status.

What does “style” mean to you?

Individuality, confidence in your own skin.

Describe your personal style? Eclectic. I don’t feel like I fit into one particular genre. I change my style depending on my mood. One day I can be extremely feminine and the next I’m a tomboy.

Oldest thing in your wardrobe? I archive a lot of my super old pieces, but I think it would be a vintage jacket that was gifted to my mother, Kim Ferguson, in the Miss Australia Quest.

Who are your style icons? My number one style icon is my mum.

What are your favourite brands? Babyanything, Balenciaga, Acne Studios, Isabel Marant, Vintage, Levis, Chanel.

Have you ever made a style faux pas? OMG yes! Just google. Ha ha ha.

What is the most surprising thing about your wardrobe?

I think people would be surprised that I have three wardrobes. One for everyday wear, one for styling and one for archives. Also how incredibly organised everything is. Everything has a place, a specific coat hanger and gets filed away. I find it’s the easiest way for me with work.

Top three wardrobe must haves? Denim (shorts/ jeans/jacket), black blazer, key basics (white, black and grey marle).

Most sentimental item in your wardrobe?

My mum made me an oversized white silk shirt for the first year I was nominated for a Cosmopolitan award. It is so special to me.

What would you buy if money was no object? A massive wardrobe the size of a football field with humidity and temperature control.

Denim or dresses? Denim is in my DNA.

Heels or sneakers? Heels or barefoot.

Is there anything you have regretted throwing out?

When I started my first business I put everything I made into it and I was so broke that I sold a pair of over-theknee Dior boots for like $100 … they were such classics but I needed the cash. I legit think about them all the time.

How many pairs of shoes do you own?

Easily over 200 … they are an investment.

Favourite fashion era? I love fashion. I have so much vintage from every era.
