BEST PERSON FOR THE JOB? WHAT A CRAZY IDEA

David Crisafulli sticks to his guns on avoiding gender quotas for pre-selection – that sounds a heck of a lot like commonsense to me. But not to the Labor Party

CUE the violins, especially from women who think God is a She/her.

Political quotas are a load of bollocks and the Labor and Liberal Parties are about to fall for the greatest con job since Adam was a boy.

Only a week and a half ago, Labor left-winged warrior Meaghan Scanlon, who has more portfolios than even Russ Hinze had at his peak, scolded the LNP for not adopting a quota system for its elected MPS.

“No wonder the LNP have a problem with women,’’ Scanlon thundered after the LNP leader David Crisafulli wouldn’t support a 50-50 quota system for women within his party.

Crisafulli said it was a matter for party members to decide which people were preselected for electorates. What a fanciful idea. A leader of a political party saying that the best person should be selected by the branch for who should represent them in state parliament.

For example, let’s say Ray Stevens, the member for Mermaid, decides to run again in 2024 and a woman decides to oust him at pre-selection.

Now Mr Stevens may not be the youngest MP in parliament but he’s a former Gold Coast Mayor with a track record for delivering for his constituents.

The woman running against him has gone drinkdrive three times in the previous 12 months, her estranged husband has filed for a domestic violence order and she’s been sacked at her previous job for fraud.

The only way the LNP can reach its 50-50 quota is to turf

Mr Stevens and give the nod to the dodgy female applicant.

Now, of course, this is an extreme example and I use it to reinforce my point. Pick the best bloody candidate for the job.

Let the voters decide if a man or woman can represent them in the corridors of power.

It’s not rocket science. Yet the feminist movement, not content with ruling the world, now want to stack the odds in their favour by running parliament.

The loser in all this is the men who are members of the Labor Party.

The Labor Party is about to go through the same stupid process of ditching perfectly capable male MPS to meet its 50-50 female-male quota system.

Can you imagine the hunger games going on among the Labor-aligned factions right now to see which male MPS will be given their marching orders?

The left faction has plenty of women.

The right faction not so many, so right-wing Labor MPS would be very nervous right now.

It’s ridiculous and patronising to women who deserve to be members of parliament.

I have written about this subject on a number of occasions and the point I make is clear.

No woman wants to be appointed to a responsible, highly demanding job like that required of a state MP on the basis of simply being born female.

They want to get there fair and square, because they are the best possible person for the job.

Labor is embracing a slippery slope when it comes to gender equity rules. They will unquestionably be turning men away. Now, on the subject of the LNP and its women “problem’’, there is no doubt it has a great deal of work to entice women back. Ex-coalition Prime Minister Scott Morrison was about as popular with women as Prince Andrew.

The LNP in Queensland needs to woo women back into the fold, many of whom have fallen for Labor’s wokish stance on affirmative action.

But that needs to come through promoting and fostering real female political talent, who secure preselection on merit, rather than whether they wear a dress.

The power of female representation is not about promoting women for the sake of it, but giving them real opportunities in which the electorate decide whether they have the goods.

Labor is not the party for the advancement of women. It is a shameless example of tokenism gone mad.
