What time do you wake up on a Saturday? I’m usually up between 6 and 7am just like during the week. I treasure weekends and want to make the most of the time. Of course I take my wife Robyn a coffee in bed if we are not going out for breakfast.

Where and when do you exercise? I love exploring different places on foot, so I walk a lot. I walk three times a week, at least 30 minutes and take stairs where I can. Often, I will take the dog (Lucy). I even drive to a location such as the banks of the Brisbane River, or when I’m staying in our Gold Coast apartment, I walk through Main Beach to the Southport Yacht Club and along the beach.

What’s your go-to weekend breakfast?

My family loves healthy food – comes with having a champion athlete in the home – and we like to try different cafes. However, I do like a home-cooked breakfast of rye bread and scrambled eggs.

Favourite park/green space? Anywhere by the water. Along Coronation Dr in Brisbane or Gold Coast beaches are my favourite.

Best place to go with dogs? A walk through our suburb. Lucy has got to know the dogs in the neighbourhood, but she still yaps at them.

Best place for a family celebration?

Definitely at home. We built our home with a beautiful back yard, pool and tropical garden to entertain and for our children to bring their friends home. We always have Christmas and Easter at home with the wider family and home is the first choice for celebrating birthdays.

Local coffee haunt? Three Girls Skipping, Graceville. Great atmosphere.

What do your daughters Ariarne, 21, and Mia, 19, have planned for Father’s Day tomorrow?

Ariarne will have just arrived home from a holiday in Europe. I think my present is from the Commonwealth Games, being a men’s Longines dive watch Arnie won for her record swims. They like to buy me car products as I am a car enthusiast and enjoy washing the family cars. I find it therapeutic.

Are there any special family rituals associated with the day?

Yes, whoever’s day it is – Father’s or Mother’s Day or a birthday – that person doesn’t have to cook, clean or load the dishwasher. It will be my day off.

What’s the best thing about being a father?

Seeing my children grow into responsible adults. Both Mia and Ariarne are great young women, beautiful and successful in their own way. I am excited about Mia as she has a

beautiful, caring soul and wants to be an occupational therapist which she will excel at.

Best beach and why? The stretch from Main Beach to Broadbeach on the Gold Coast.

Hidden treasure? Historic homesteads in the Gold Coast Hinterland and behind Noosa.

What’s your perfect Saturday? Rise early, a slow breakfast and a quiet night with the family or catching up with friends.
