Manslaughter accused back in custody

- JESSICA PAUL

A GOLD Coast man accused of fatally shooting his ex-girlfriend has been returned to custody after allegedly breaching bail conditions.

Christos Panagakos, 30, who denies shooting the woman at a Highland Park home in September, 2019, was rearrested after being charged with unrelated offences this week.

Police allege the 30-year-old was driving with an illegal drug in his system on Hotham Creek Rd at Willow Vale on Monday.

Panagakos was also allegedly found with a quantity of methylamphetamine during a police search at the scene.

According to court documents, police allege possession

of the drugs breached the bail conditions placed on Panagakos in September, 2021, which stipulated he should “refrain from illegal drugs and submit to drug testing as directed”.

The fresh charges were mentioned in Southport Magistrates Court on Thursday, with Panagakos still in custody at the police watch house.

Law clerk Jessie Coplick, of

Gatenby Criminal Law, said Panagakos needed another adjournment so he could try to check into a rehabilitation centre.

His matter will next be heard on February 9, with Panagakos to appear via videolink.

He is expected to make an application for bail.

The new charges come as Panagakos awaits a trial in the Brisbane Supreme Court on one charge of manslaughter.

It is alleged his former partner, Ivona Jovanovic, died when Panagakos tripped while carrying a loaded gun in his home in September, 2019.

Panagakos was committed to stand trial in August last year.

A Supreme Court date has not yet been confirmed.
