THESE DUMPLINGS ARE A STAR ATTRACTION

- CRYSTAL FOX

A POPULAR Gold Coast restaurant has undergone a fresh transformation which includes a new fit-out and mouth-watering meals with flavours from South East Asia.

Dumpling house Mei Wei at The Star has refreshed their look and menu in time for the Lunar New Year Season.

Mei Wei sous chef Daniel Fox said the transformation and expansion of the diner was under development for more than two years.

“Guests will see an expansion of our food and beverage menus, with a fully stocked bar where you can order a range of beers, wines and cocktails such as our signature bubble tea cocktails,” he said.

Mr Fox said they had sold more than 9,000 Xia Jia dumplings, 7,500 Shao Mai Dumplings and 7,000 Xiao Long Bao Dumplings since the reopening of the restaurant on December 8.

“We have been busier than ever before with our expanded seating overflowing at our peak periods,” he said.

“The demand has been amazing and really encouraging to see that our vision for great value meals and quick service has been so well received by our guests.”

The menu was updated with new flavours from South East Asia including red duck curry, five spice chicken wings and mandarin crunch salad.

“My favourite dish would be the Rou Jia Mio which means ‘meat in a bun’,” Mr Fox said.

“This super tasty little hamburger originated from the city of Xian in Shaanxi province in China.

“Our version features a slow-cooked master stock pork belly which features spices like cassia bark, star anise and ginger.

“We then braise the pork for four hours then shred the meat.

“The pork is also paired with our signature chilli pickle and coriander.”
