Veteran motoring writer Pedr Davis OAM was saddened by the end of local car making, but he’s seen it all before. “I was hit even worse by the end of British-owned automotive manufacturing, as I had been part of that industry … It was equally devastating to see it in Australia, starting off with the local assemblers – Rootes Group [closed 1972], AMI [1987] and ultimately Toyota, Holden and Ford.”
