Fight of the Century: Mcgregor vs Mayweather
An A-list crowd meant Conor Mcgregor wasn’t the only one seeing stars at the Mayweather bout of the century
JENNIFER LOPEZ AND BOYFRIEND ALEX Rodriguez turned fight night into date night when they caught the much-hyped bout between US boxing veteran Floyd Mayweather and Irish native and UFC champ Conor Mcgregor in Las Vegas on Aug. 26. The couple flew in on a private jet and took the best seats in the house, sitting ringside next to Matthew Blank, the chairman of Showtime Networks. Demi Lovato, a longtime UFC fan, sang the US National Anthem: “I feel so nervous but I’m really, really excited! This is the biggest fight of our generation!” she said before the bout, from which both men reportedly scored around $US100 million, with a purse of $US390 million. “When you look at it that way and how
many fans all over the world are going to be watching, it’s nerve-racking for sure.” Who was she cheering for? “I am not picking sides!” she said. “I am there to unite the audience of the fight.”
That audience—including Ozzy Osbourne, Charlize Theron, Sean “Diddy” Combs, Jamie Foxx and Olivia Munn—saw Mayweather, 40, defeat Mcgregor, 29, in the 10th round, marking his 50th career win.
After the event, Tobey Maguire and Leonardo Dicaprio were spotted at Jewel nightclub inside the Aria Resort & Casino, where Jamie Foxx was performing. “The real Spider-man is in the building,” Foxx announced, according to E! News. “There’s a wolf in the building,” he continued, before the crowd chanted, “Leo, Leo, Leo.” Despite losing, Mcgregor was out to celebrate, heading to Encore Beach Club. “It didn’t go our way, but we can still party like it did go our way,” he told TMZ. “May have lost this battle, but the world goes on.”
