Tell us about your character.

Leah is a young Jewish girl who was a patient of Sarah’s [Marta Dusseldorp] when she was younger. She’s pretty much your typical teenager, starting to rebel against her family’s traditions, but in the 1950s!

Did you do any research?

I researched a lot about the Jewish tradition and rituals, as I didn’t know much at all. I learnt about how the Jewish tradition really binds families and creates a strong community.

What do you love about period dramas?

The costume, the makeup and the set design. There’s something really special about working on a show where the creative departments pay such attention to detail and make sure everything is so beautiful. It also helps to get into character, and move and talk the way a teenager in the 1950s would. I also love the style of all the clothes! I wish I could still dress like that.

Are there any downsides?

I wouldn’t say so. Maybe that it takes a bit more time to get ready, which means an earlier wake up.

Is it hard walking around without a phone?

[ Laughs] Not really. It’s a nice change! I try not to take my phone onto set, but when I do I have it on silent and hide it in the pocket of my warm coat, which I don’t wear when filming.
