Beautiful Trauma
Pink’s triumphant LP contains collaborations with artists ranging from pop savant Max Martin to the singular rapper Eminem, but she unites these diverse stylistic strains with her boundless charisma and a cohesive vision. Emotional ballads (“But We Lost It”) and poppy kiss-offs (Em’s “Revenge”) flow into one another seamlessly. She tackles her subject matter boldly, too, from forceful political statements (“What About Us”) to ballads about the disillusionment of adulthood (“Barbies”). (And, perhaps reflecting on her 11-year marriage to Carey Hart, the love songs have a unique flavour as well.) Beautiful Trauma affirms that, even after nearly two decades in the pop sphere, Pink remains one of the genre’s most empathetic and vital voices. ( Out now)
