Demi’s shock truths

The starlet talks sexuality and her ongoing bulimia battle in a candid film

DEMI LOVATO HAS OPENED up about her past addictions, sexuality and eating disorder in a confessional documentary. In the Youtube film Simply Complicated, released on Oct. 17, the singer and actress spoke frankly about her battle with bulimia, admitting that during half of her six-year relationship with Wilmer Valderrama, 37, she didn’t purge but since their June 2016 split her eating problems have returned. “When I feel lonely, my heart feels hungry, and then I end up bingeing, and I don’t know how to figure out how to be alone,” said Lovato, 25, who said her mother and grandmother had also suffered from the illness.

Single after splitting from MMA fighter Guilherme Vasconcelos, 31, in May, the star revealed that she is openminded about sex. “I am on the dating app with both guys and girls,” she said about exclusive hook-up app Raya.

Now sober for five-and-a-half years, Lovato’s drug addiction began aged 17 with the ADHD medication Adderall, an amphetamine, and cocaine while working on the Disney Channel. Her curiosity about drugs was fuelled by her late biological father who, like her, suffered from bipolar disorder and was an addict. “Guess I always searched for what he found in drugs and alcohol because it fulfilled him, and he chose that over a family,” she said.

Despite entering rehab at 18, she continued to use. “I wasn’t ready to get sober,” says Lovato. “It’s embarrassing to look back at the person that I was.”

?? ?? “Any time I’m able to take my mind off of any of my addictions, it’s very beneficial,” said Lovato (on April 25). “Working out is a form of meditation to me because I’m not focused on anything in my head.”
