Expert colourist and Jennifer Aniston’s mane man shares his insider tips

- With Toni Hynes

Y ou have so many famous clients. Do you have a personal favourite? I honestly love all of my clients, but I will say Heidi Klum is the only one who would make me blush! You’re famous for co-creating Jennifer Aniston’s “Rachel” style. In your eyes, what made this look so famous? When the “Rachel” was created, we took the volume out and used the colour to enhance the movement. After she got it cut, she came back to me and that’s when I added the face framing trademark highlights. Aniston still has such soughtafter locks, why do you think so many people love her style? Because the colour does not take away from her natural beauty but rather enhances it. How do you achieve such a natural finish? I use paper-thin highlights to bring out a natural sun kissed look while keeping her trademark highlights around the face. What’s her favourite treatment? It’s actually the glosses we apply as the final step, which enhance her colour. Can you tell us about your new line, Canale? I’m so excited to tell you that it’s the first of it’s kind, focusing on getting hair ready for colour and maintaining colour. The Canale line is hypoallergenic, keratin-safe, gluten- and paraben-free, filled with natural ingredients to help protect and grow strong healthy hair. What is your best advice for colour-treated hair? Use a good shampoo and conditioner. Shampoos that are formulated for colour-treated hair, and clean well in conjunction with a conditioner that hydrates, will help you achieve your best hair. How would you protect hair against the Australian sun? Glosses, which reflect sunlight, protect hair. Oils can be added to your conditioner such as sesame seed oil, known for protecting hair from harmful UV rays.
