Multiple TV shows and a radio gig still mean a pared-down schedule for you.

I went through a period in the last sort of four years just taking bits I could manage, leaving plenty of room for family time. That includes retreating to the family farm, where I’ve been isolated, really, from the world. I’ve sort of reached the point where I’m hungry for new adventures.

So what do The Living Room folks have planned for you with this “Big Adventure”?

They are sending the littlest bloke on television to cover the littlest attractions in the biggest cities. It wasn’t until I was halfway through it that I’m getting in on the joke.

And you pilot a plane?

Yeah! I’ve always wanted to go up in a jet. It happened to be over my favourite race track in the world and my backyard, Mount Panorama. So I got to set the new lap record around Mount Panorama, or at least above it.

You had a scare with a rally crash last March.

It took me a bit of time to physically recover from some of those injuries, so I’ve sort of put motorsport to the side. But you know, I’ll be back in a car this year in some form.

Are your daughters, Sailor, 6, and Scout, 2, daredevils, too?

You’re certainly going to have a little twinkle in your eye when they start racing a little quad bike around the farm. Teaching them motor skills that I learnt at that age is a wonderful feeling of passing the baton.

What’s scarier, racing or radio?

Radio is terrifying. In television, you really only have to talk in bites, not three hours straight! It’s a lot more vulnerable.

?? ?? “God, it was cool,” Denyer says of taking to the air. “Maybe when I hang up the racing helmet, maybe that’s what replaces it.” Denyer (in a hotel room) says, “I get it. Everything I’m doing is small. Hilarious, Amanda Keller. Hilarious.”
