Sam Kerr STRIKING BEAUTY

-

Having played for the Matildas for a decade, the star forward, 24, was named Young Australian of the Year in January, just the latest accolade for the backflipping football marvel. Asked what makes her feel beautiful, “I love being out in my kit, but then I also love getting all dolled up for those special nights in amazing gowns,” the West Australian tells WHO. “Getting your hair done and sometimes being the girly girl that sometimes athletes don’t get to be ... That was a lie, such a lie!” she bursts out laughing. “I don’t know. I hate being beautiful. I just want to play soccer.”

What’s your favourite feature?

I guess it’s probably my lips. They’re big and everyone always comments on them.

Who is the most beautiful person in the world?

Definitely Beyoncé. She’s not only a beautiful human, but she’s an amazing human being and she does a lot of good things outside of her career. She’s unreal. I would be Beyoncé, if I could. Always be yourself, unless you can be Beyoncé! What is ugly to you? Fake things! I don’t know if I should say that but I really don’t like the whole fake lips, fake butt, fake everything … It’s just not for me. What’s your go-to beauty look? Slicked-back hair and not too much makeup. What’s your daily beauty routine? Nothing. Natural beauty, mate. I don’t really have a routine, to be honest. Wake up, clean my teeth, moisturise, brush my hair. One beauty product you can’t leave home without? My hairbrush. People find that weird but I’m obsessed with it. I’ve had it for four years and I have a heart attack if I can’t find it. It’s from Target and it cost me $4 but it has the best soft bristles. What grounds you? It’s just the way I am. I’m not really someone who likes fussing over things. My family are very supportive but they’re the first ones to tell me if I didn’t have a good game. I still live with my parents in Fremantle because there’s no point moving out when I spend so many months away from home when I’m playing. What’s exciting about this year? I recently changed clubs and moved to Chicago. It’s a new team and a new challenge and I’m really excited to get over and explore. I’ve never lived in the city, so it’s a new step for me.
