Daniel Macpherson THE NICE GUY

-

He’s been a staple on Australian TV for two decades—from Neighbours to hosting Dancing With the Stars. But for the past five years, Daniel Macpherson, 37, has been carving out a career in Los Angeles, most recently with an ongoing role in the TV series Strike Back. By his side has been his wife of three years, actress Zoe Ventura. A beautiful life “is about spending time with the people you love,” he says. “The people that make you better and people you want to be better for.”

What makes you feel beautiful? When I’m in the sun or in the ocean and I’m surrounded by great friends and family. I don’t think you can set out to try and be beautiful and look beautiful, that’s up to someone else.

What do you think a pair of fresh eyes looking at you would see that you wouldn’t necessary see in yourself?

I’m my harshest critic—of my physicality, my fitness, my work, my creativity—and that’s served me very well for 20 years of a career. That’s where the biggest stages of growth have come from. What would they say about me? He’s shorter in real life! Or he looks better without the beard! Do you have a beauty regimen? I do now I’ve got a bit older. I have a beard moisturiser which also moisturises the skin beneath the beard as well as keeping your beard clean and smelling good. I do have a cleaning and moisturising routine. I’m on a diet at the moment. I’m drinking five litres of water a day and what that’s done for not only my skin but my clarity of thoughts is amazing. Is there one defining beautiful moment in your life? I’d have to say getting married. It was a spectacular day. That day surrounded by our closest friends in a place that we loved surrounded by people that we loved—that was a beautiful day. Are there any beautiful aspects of Australia that you miss living in LA? The colours of Australia are so vibrant and we don’t realise until you leave and come back that the ocean is blue and the sand is white, yellow. Australia shines bright. I’ll never forget the first time I flew over the red centre and out to Uluru and I got so choked up with emotion. I miss the vibrancy of the colours.
