REBECCA JUDD 35, WITH TOM & DARCY, 19 MONTHS

-

From married with no children to a family of six just five years later, Rebecca Judd found motherhood in a hurry. The TV personality—she has son Oscar, 6, daughter Billie, 4, and twin boys Tom and Darcy with her husband, former AFL champion Chris Judd, 34—has shaped her pregnancy and parenting experiences into a refreshingly honest guidebook for expectant mothers, The Baby Bible (Allen & Unwin, $34.99). Bec tells WHO’S Marianne Bilkey about the joys and challenges of parenting.

Having four children in five years must have been a huge adjustment. How did you cope with that? Yes, it’s been a huge adjustment. I have never really been that maternal … I’m not the sort of person who needs to hold the baby all the time. But here I am with four children and I love it.

What is the most important quality that you would like to pass on to your kids?

Kindness. To be a really good, honest, kind person and to look out for each other.

What qualities do you take from your mum?

To be kind to everyone and stay grounded and stay humble always. Be prepared, turn up on time, always say please, always say thank you, always be mindful of other people’s feelings and show empathy.

Do you have a favourite mum moment in your day?

I do love school pick-up. I love standing there talking to the other mums and I love the look on your child’s face when they see you. Billie runs to me every single time yelling, “Mummy!” She’s so energetic, she almost bowls me over every time. Then we’ll walk over to Oscar … and when that door opens and he sees me and runs out, that’s really great.
