Do people say “Nailed it” to you all the time now?

All the time. I was in San Jose doing shows at the Improv and this man was speeding towards me. I’m like, “This man is going to hit me.” He stopped just short, leaned out his window and went, “Almost nailed it!” And I was like, “Don’t scream the title of my show after you almost killed me!”

Sweet or savoury?

Hmm. My favourite candy is a Goober, which is a chocolate-covered peanut.

Cake or pie?

I don’t know. I guess cake. That’s hard because I really love cake but I really love pie, too. F--k! I guess cake? Cake.

Is there ever a moment in real life when you wished you had a panic button?

Yes. I meet a lot of people and I do a lot of shows. So whenever I confuse someone for somebody else, I just wanna hit the panic button and be like, “I don’t know, someone come over and make this better!”

What’s your fail-safe excuse for turning down a dinner invitation?

Uh, I do not turn down a free dinner. Are you kidding? If you ask me to dinner, I will go to dinner with you. Home-cooked meal or takeaway? I order food. Someone else makes it for me. What’s funnier—the baking fails on Nailed It or the bad date stories on your podcast? For me, the baking fails because the bad dates are something I’m living through. But maybe the bad dates because it’s something you can truly identify with. I feel everyone has been on a bad date but a lot of people don’t attempt to make these beautiful things. If you’re making a dinner for somebody and you burn it, that’s a sad day, but a bad date? That a story that lives with you forever!
