BRYAN & DIANA’S SPECIAL FRIENDSHIP REVEALED

Grammy-winning rocker Bryan Adams has finally addressed his long-speculated-about connection with the late Princess Diana. During an appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen on June 26, the “Summer of ‘69” singer confirmed he regularly visited the British royal at Kensington Palace, but denied there was a romantic relationship.

Host Cohen prodded: “There are many rumours that you and Princess Diana were once romantically involved. Her butler said that he used to sneak you into Kensington Palace. How would you characterise your relationship with Princess Diana?” Adams, 58, who reportedly wrote his 1985 song “Diana” about the royal, replied, “Great friends. And she didn’t sneak me in, I would just roll up.” “Friends with benefits?” Cohen asked. “Um, she was just … We were good friends,” Adams replied.

In 2003, Danish model Cecilie Thomsen, the Canadian rocker’s long-time ex-girlfriend, told Danish magazine Billed Bladet she was aware about the alleged romance at the time and turned a blind eye. “Bryan knew [butler] Paul Burrell very well and Paul was part of the inner circle around Bryan, and he also introduced him to Diana,” Thomsen said. “The first time Bryan met Diana, I wasn’t invited. Ours was a stormy relationship and Bryan’s affair with Diana didn’t make it easier.”

Adams, last seen with Princess Diana at the Expo ’86 Theatre in Vancouver when she toured Canada with Prince Charles, has said Thomsen’s remarks and other reports were “pure conjecture and supposition.”
