The Oscar winner, 51, gives WHO’S Jackie Fields an update on her projects and holiday plans.

How is the filming of Big Little Lies Season 2 going? We’re in the midst of shooting it right now. I was working on my birthday [June 20], which they say is good luck, so I hope it is! How did you celebrate your 51st birthday on-set? Reese [Witherspoon] got me an ice-cream truck, which was nice. And [a few days later] she, Zoë Kravitz and Laura Dern took me out to dinner. As a Neutrogena brand ambassador, you’ve been speaking out about sun protection for its Every Day Is Sunday campaign. Why is that important to you? I’m passionate about it because for a lot of my childhood I couldn’t be as outdoorsy or sporty as I would have liked because I got severe burns. Raising two little girls [Sunday Rose, 10, and Faith Margaret, 7], I want them to be active, yet I want to be a responsible mother and protect their skin so they thank me when they’re older. What are your northern summer plans with the family? We’ll get a big blow-up slide and have a big pool party for my [older] daughter’s birthday [on July 7]. And my mum’s coming from Australia, so I’m going to take her to the theatre in New York. Also my sister [Antonia] and I are going to take our little girls on a hiking trip in Tasmania, which is a great place to hike. Your husband, Keith Urban, is on his Graffiti U tour. Will you get to join him on the road? Oh yeah, we go out on the tour regularly. We call it “the road trip.” We sleep in bunk beds, and we get to see—and fall in love with—different parts of America. You two celebrated your 12th wedding anniversary on June 25. What’s your secret to long-lasting love? I think it’s knowing that you have to keep contributing to what we call the “us.” You go, “Does this work for us?” And when you make an “us,” it’s yours together—that’s what you create. Nobody else has that. It’s just between the two of you.
