Meghan and Harry

The Queen is said to make a real estate bequest

-

Since their wedding, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been settling in to their two-bedroom Nottingham Cottage, located in the grounds of Kensington Palace. But Prince Harry and Meghan are already rumoured to be updating their royal residence.

On July 22, the Daily Mail reported that Queen Elizabeth is gifting them Adelaide Cottage, located in the Windsor Castle estate. The grand residence already holds special sentiment for Meghan and Harry, who wed within the walls of Windsor Castle at St George’s Chapel in May. Their reported new home is a few minutes’ walk from where they tied the knot.

Adelaide Cottage was built in 1831 for King William IV’S wife, Queen Adelaide. Its fittings include a marble Greco-egyptian fireplace and a main bedroom ceiling that’s covered in gilded dolphins and a rope ornament from a royal yacht.

If the reports are to believed, this won’t be the first time the Queen has gifted the newlyweds real estate—the couple received Sandringham Estate’s York Cottage as a wedding gift. And Harry’s brother and sister-in-law, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, received Sandringham’s Anmer Hall as a gift from HRH.

But Meghan and Harry might not be moving into their stately home just yet, with reports that they’ve signed a two-year lease 90 minutes outside of London at an estate in the Cotswolds. Local residents told WHO the royal couple have been spotted at the local Soho Farmhouse, a popular members’ club. The Queen’s gift comes just days after the happy couple concluded their tour of Northern Ireland. •
