JAIL TIME FOR FELICITY HUFFMAN

-

A visibly shaken Felicity Huffman fought back tears as she entered a Boston courtroom on Monday clutching the arm of her brother, Moore Huffman Junior.

Two months after being charged (along with 49 other people) for her part in the US college admissions cheating scandal, Huffman, 56, pleaded guilty to paying a fake charity $15,000 to correct her daughter’s SAT college entry exam answers and secure her a spot at a prominent university.

Sobbing as she addressed Judge Indira Talwani, Huffman said that her daughter had a learning difficulty and had been seeing a neuropsychologist since she was 8. She said her daughter had no knowledge of the cheating scheme.

When the judge asked Huffman if she had “any dispute that you reached an agreement and ultimately paid $15,000 to enable [a bribed scorer] to correct your daughter’s SAT test”, Huffman replied: “No, your honour.”

“Everything else [the prosecutor] said I did, I did,” she said.

Notably absent from the court was Huffman’s actor husband, actor William H. Macy, who is not charged.

Prosecutors have recommended Huffman spend at least four months in jail, 12 months of supervised release and pay a $20,000 fine. She will be sentenced on September 13.

In April, Huffman agreed to plead guilty, saying, “I am in full acceptance of my guilt, and with deep regret and shame over what I have done, I accept full responsibility for my actions and will accept the consequences that stem from those actions.”
