Pip Edwards and Claire Tregoning talk activewear, denim and swimwear at MBFWA 2019

-

Established in Sydney in 2016, P.E Nation has become Australia’s most popular brand for on-trend activewear with an edgy twist. We sat down with creative directors Pip Edwards and Claire Tregoning to ask ...

What inspired the collection?

Claire Tregoning It’s our general aesthetic, you know, we do ’80s, ’90s street, which is what we have been doing from the beginning.

Pip Edwards But we are really amping up colours. We are not just an active brand, as you know, there is a lot of fashion and a lot of denim and there are a lot of layers and attitude. It’s like elevated street on a mission. What was the story behind the show?

Edwards The show is called Physical Education [and] we have never really played to those initials [P.E] before, so that’s exciting. It’s a proper show with choreography, fun music and a runway of text, but it is also the moment that we release our co-lab with Speedo and Pared Eyewear.

How does it feel having launched swimwear?

Edwards It’s very exciting having a swimwear category. Claire and I love swim and it’s part of the culture and the lifestyle of the brand, so to be able to do that in a performance way is amazing. Speedo was also born on Bondi Beach, so it’s a perfect collaboration.

How do each of you contribute to the creative process?

Tregoning We are both creative directors and then I moved into the designing and product and Pip does sales and marketing.

Edwards We play to our strengths, we both share the same vision and have the same eye so we come together at the start and then divide and conquer, and then come back and review. It’s like having two sets of eyes. What’s next for P.E Nation? Both Everything!
