The Aussie actress makes a stand and calls out fat shamers

STARS OF HOME AND Away are often snapped in swimwear shooting on location in Sydney’s Palm Beach, but actress Sophie Dillman has called out Daily Mail Australia for “[allowing] my appearance to be a topic of discussion”.

The article, published on June 7, showed paparazzi photos of Dillman and wrote that she “narrowly avoided spilling out of her skimpy swimwear while taking a dip in the ocean”.

Taking to Instagram on June 15, Dillman wrote an open letter to the publication and revealed what she really thought. “On top of trying to remember my lines, run between the ocean and rain in 9-degree weather, and deliver a performance in which I had to appear believably warm, I had the added pleasure of being snapped by your caring and reasonable paparazzi,” the 25-year-old penned.

The actress criticised the Mail for “choosing the most unflattering pictures possible from that day and using them to write an article about me, which was designed to make me look awful, suggest I am too fat for my clothes and allow my appearance to be a topic of discussion”.

After inviting whoever wrote the story to join her in running in and out of the ocean while being photographed and trying to remember her lines and stay in character, Dillman posed a question to the people who wrote “fat shaming” comments. “How would you feel if someone said those things about you? Or if they made your loved one cry because they said it to them?” the actress wrote. “These are the types of comments that lead to the development of depression, anxiety and eating disorders.”

Dillman made sure her fans knew that she was OK by adding a humorous sign off: “To the man who said I had no curves and look like a refrigerator – don’t be mean to refrigerators – they are keeping all my food cold so I can be juicy news for you all to comment on,” she posted.

The star has previously told WHO she likes to keep fit and healthy as a stress reliever.

“I’m a very energetic person so if I don’t work out I can’t sleep,” she revealed. “I have to keep myself sane and balanced, and all that jazz.” •
