HEALTH BATTLES
The lives of the rich and famous can often appear picture perfect. So when a celebrity reveals they’re battling a chronic condition it not only takes us by surprise but reminds us they’re human and unfortunately can succumb to the same heartbreaking diseases as the rest of us might face.
Who could forget the moment in 1998 when actor Michael J. Fox revealed that he had been suffering from Parkinson’s disease for the past seven years, and had undergone brain surgery to try and stop his tremors? He has since gone on to advocate for research to find a cure and started his own foundation.
The likes of Modern Family actress Sarah Hyland, singer Selena Gomez and former model Yolanda Hadid have also all spoken out about their health struggles in the hopes of raising awareness.
But no moment has been more touching in recent years than when an emotional Selma Blair proudly stepped out on the red carpet for the Vanity Fair Oscars party, her cane in hand, to tell the world she was suffering from multiple sclerosis (MS) but wouldn’t let it define her.
The actress, most famous for her roles in Cruel Intentions and Legally Blonde, has now told us – exclusively through our sister publication People – how dealing with her MS has allowed her to find a strength she never knew she had.
Her frankness about her condition and ability to laugh through the pain is nothing short of inspirational.
You can read her touching interview on page 36.
Hope you enjoy it!
