TRIUMPH THROUGH TRAGEDY

-

She may keep the judges and audience in stitches, but 40-year-old Emma Krause has overcome a few battles in her life – most recently being the separation from her partner and father to her twin daughters.

“The kids are really strong, but it just takes time and adjusting,” she tells WHO. “Yeah, it’s been a massive shift and it kind of happened earlier on in the year. I guess it was just me saying we’re not happy and we haven’t been happy in a while and let’s face this. It’s not making us happy and I want the kids to be happy and we won’t be happy together. It’s been horrendously sad this year.”

Still, she says, she’s found hope in making those around her squeal with joy and laughter. “You get into comedy and you try to nut out what makes someone laugh and what makes someone laugh is telling a story of your misfortunes. You look a lot deeper into yourself there and you’re very honest with yourself. I have been more honest to myself since doing comedy, it’s been a process of unravelling – facing up to things that I wouldn’t have looked at so closely before,” she says.

The mum of two also admits she’s on Australia’s Got Talent because she wants to inspire her children. “I’m not doing it because I want to be famous, I’m doing it because I want to make people laugh. I make people laugh because a lot of people aren’t doing so well, and it’s nice to make them feel happy. I want my kids to get that message.”

And while the show is still in the early stages, she can confirm, “They’re very, very proud of me.”
