The model speaks candidly about struggling to fall pregnant
WHEN JESINTA FRANKLIN announced she was pregnant with her first child with AFL star husband Lance ‘Buddy’ Franklin on August 28, she said both she and Buddy were “incredibly excited and overjoyed” to have a “baby on the way”. But Jesinta’s announcement through her lifestyle app was tinged with sadness, with the 28-year-old former Miss Universe Australia hinting the couple had struggled with fertility issues.
“The journey to get here hasn’t been easy and this little life is the greatest gift and we feel truly blessed and grateful that we will have a little angel of our own,” she said of their bub, due in May 2020.
“We have both dreamt of this for a long time and whilst the last 2.5 years have been physically and emotionally challenging, there’s nothing we would change as it’s brought us to this beautiful moment.”
Three days later, Jesinta spoke candidly about her and Buddy’s heartbreaking path
to pregnancy. “Because I had struggled to fall pregnant and there had been losses along the way, as a woman who had been through that I felt like I was doing so many couples a disservice to come out and say, ‘Surprise, we are pregnant,’” the mum-to-be told the Herald Sun. “I wanted other women to find comfort in the fact that this was not a surprise.”
She added that while life, at times, had been tough during this period, her husband was an “amazing” support. Jesinta and Buddy began dating in 2012 and were married in 2016 at a ceremony in the NSW Blue Mountains.
Jesinta seems to be embracing her pregnant appearance. On September 2, she uploaded a black and white mirror selfie and wrote: “Can’t wait for the front to catch up to the back. My butt seems to be expanding by the day. Haha.” She added an image of a peach which contained the words: “Sweet n’ peachy.” •
