MODEL MUMS Aussie ‘It Girls’

These Aussie ‘It girls’ have found their true calling in motherhood

Little Frankie Violet has been in the world for only a matter of weeks, but already Jennifer Hawkins couldn’t imagine life without her daughter. Married to Jake Wall since 2013, the 35-year-old model spent the next five years building on her career, but the one thing she wanted most – to become a mum – was out of reach.

“I had so many years of planning, but the one thing I so dearly wanted couldn’t be planned,” Hawkins said, revealing she’d suffered a miscarriage in 2018.

But with beautiful Frankie now here, the former Miss Universe has joined a long line of Aussie ‘It girls’ who have happily added ‘mum’ to their CVs, alongside ‘model’ and ‘beauty entrepreneur’.

Model-turned-health-mogul Jesinta Franklin is grateful to soon be spending her days changing nappies, after she and footballer husband Buddy Franklin dreamt of falling pregnant for “a long time”. “The journey to get here hasn’t been easy and this little life is the greatest gift,” said the 28-year-old mumto-be, who tried for two and a half years to conceive.

Another Aussie model whose life has been changed by motherhood is Lara Worthington. She left a busy social life – and a scandal or two – behind when she married actor Sam Worthington in 2014 and relocated to the US. She’s the first to admit that having their sons, 4-year-old Rocket and 3-year-old Racer, was “the best thing I’ve ever done”.

“My 20s were about travel, parties, exploring, less responsibility. My 30s feel more about routine and are more grounded,” she told Harper’s Bazaar. Now, the 32-yearold is rumoured to be expecting again.

Worthington’s friend Nicole Trunfio has followed a similar path and couldn’t be more content. The Aussie model and jewellery designer, 33, is pregnant with her third child with US musician Gary Clark Jr, and the couple live on a ranch in Texas with their kids, 4-year-old Zion and Gia, 22 months. “My family is my most important thing,” Trunfio told ELLE Australia. “Most people take for granted just being together every day as a unit.”

Miranda Kerr, meanwhile, is showing no signs of slowing down with business or motherhood, having built up her ultra-successful Kora business while raising 8-year-old Flynn, her son with ex-husband Orlando Bloom. Last month, the 36-year-old and husband Evan Spiegel welcomed son Myles, a little brother for 1-year-old son Hart, with Miranda saying, “I love to be a mum and a wife, that is the most important thing, and then just do a few select jobs.”
