Angie Kent
She opens up on her troubles before fame
FROM GOGGLEBOX TO I’M A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! to The Bachelorette, Australia has fallen head over heels for Angie Kent. And as the 29-year-old ends her quest for love on the Network Ten dating show, she has also shown a very different side of herself, penning a tell-all book about what her life was like before TV fame came knocking.
The book, If You Don’t Laugh You’ll Cry, paints a contrasting picture of Australia’s sweetheart, with the bubbly dog lover opening up about her battles with homelessness and loneliness. The TV star turned author describes her strong work ethic, and how putting her family and everyone she loves before anything else has at times been to the detriment of her own wellbeing.
Sharing a dark period of her life, she writes: “I have literally slept in my own car when I didn’t have a home and sometimes I couldn’t even afford to go to the doctor.”
With each hardship, Kent has found the upside: “Believe it or not but your truest self isn’t your fancy-ass car, or how big your fake boobs are, or how many followers you have on Instagram. Your true self is how you connect with others in situations that you are not familiar with.”
On the topic of love, she says being single for eight years was certainly not a choice. “Sometimes I have felt so lonely and dated the wrong people to fill that void,” she admits.
Things seemed to turn around thanks to her current beau, chosen in the final episode of The Bachelorette, with Kent commenting on love: “I will be myself, with the best possible plus one.”
