Kicking off the 2019 E! People’s Choice Awards on Monday, Robert Downey Jr had a reminder for the star-studded crowd gathered inside the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California. “It’s important for us industry types to remember,” he said. “We actually work for the audience.” Accepting her statue for People’s Icon of 2019, Jennifer Aniston’s sentiment was similar – but with a sting. “As actors, we don’t do this for critics or for each other, or to make our families proud, you know? We do this for the money,” she quipped.
“No, I’m just kidding, we do it for you guys … and you all have been so good to me.”
People’s Champion winner Pink urged fans to work for a greater good. “There is so much to be done,” she said. “Kindness today is an act of rebellion … Stop fighting each other and help each other. Get together with your friends and change the f--king world.”
