It’s the season for festive fun and what better way to highlight that brand-new little jumpsuit or party dress than with some buffed, illuminated, tanned skin. Fake tanning can be your best friend or your biggest beauty blunder, there are no in-betweens and we’ve all been there. WHO spoke to none other than the beauty industry expert in tanning, ModelCo founder, Shelley Sullivan, who’s worked with Hailey Bieber, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Karl Lagerfeld, to name but a few … she’s our go-to for answering all your tanning questions and also shares what’s new in her line of formulas.
WHAT ARE YOUR TOP PREPPING TIPS?
Exfoliation is the first step to a well-rounded tan routine! Tan Remover Exfoliating Soap creates a flawless base for tan, while lightly buffing away dead skin cells and increasing skin clarity. Apply your self-tan within an hour of showering – your skin is at its best to react with the tanning agent when your skin is clean and starting to cool.
KNOW YOUR SKIN TYPE:
Just like with skincare and makeup, you must look into your skin type to decipher what the best formula is for you to seek the most natural looking results. Sullivan’s tips are: OILY To prevent further oil build-up, I recommend Tan Mousse, as it gives back to your skin with beneficial ingredients to help soothe and soften the skin, while giving it a gorgeous glow.
DRY If you’re on the drier side, I recommend
Tan Jelly. Ingredients of coconut oil, vitamin E and sorbitol help retain moisture and deeply nourish skin for a longer lasting tan. SENSITIVE The Natural Tan lotion is made with naturally derived ingredients and is free from any nasties, making it the perfect tan to ensure skin is free from irritation.
FACE OFF
I recommend using Tan Water on the face rather than a traditional self-tanner, which tends to clog pores. It’s colourless, odourless and is enriched with rose water and green tea to soften and nourish skin while giving it a sun-kissed glow within four hours!
PATCHWORK
Patchiness is a result of dry skin. I always apply a small amount of moisturiser to drier areas of my body before tanning my ankles, elbows and wrists. If you notice a dry patch appear after tan, spritz Tan Water on the area and rub in circular motions with a Blend Buffing Mitt to smooth and blur.
TAME THAT TAN
Tan mishaps are inevitable when it comes to self-tanning (especially when you’re doing it for the first time!). If your tan is too dark, simply have a shower and lightly buff the skin with the Tan Remover Exfoliating Soap, this will gently polish away a layer without removing the tan completely.
PROLONG A GLOW
Opt for a self-tanning product enriched with nourishing ingredients such as Natural Tan or Tan Water and apply to the skin every two to three days – this will extend your colour and keep skin free from flakiness.
RIGHT OF REMOVAL
ModelCo’s tanning range is equipped with all the essentials for removing tan fast. Our Tan Remover Exfoliating Soap instantly removes tan while clearing away dead skin cells and increasing skin clarity. It has pore cleansing granules of Natural Pumice Stone and skin-smoothing alpha-hydroxy acids of Goats Milk making it a multi-purpose skin essential for tan removal and everyday exfoliation.
