THE BRITISH SINGER FINALLY OPENS UP ABOUT HIS PERSONAL LIFE
HIS FANS HAVE SPECULATED ABOUT HIS LOVE life for years, but former One Direction star Harry Styles has always remained tight-lipped and tantalisingly vague.
But this week, with the release of his new album Fine Line, the 25-year-old has addressed those long-running rumours in an interview with The Guardian. “I just think sexuality’s something that’s fun,” he smiles. “Honestly? I can’t say I’ve given it any more thought than that.”
Over the years he has fuelled such gossip through his gender fluid fashions, support of the LGBTQI+ community and waving the rainbow-coloured Pride flag on stage. He even told Rolling Stone in August that he “dates amazing women, or men, whatever”.
He denies he’s being deliberately playful with the press. “It’s not like I’m sitting on an answer, and protecting it, and holding it back,” he tells The Guardian. “It’s not a case of: I’m not telling you because I don’t want to tell you. It’s not: ooh this is mine and it’s not yours. It’s who cares? Does that make sense? It’s just who cares?”
At this year’s Met Gala he turned heads with a sheer, lacy Gucci top, while on Saturday Night Live last month, he donned a pink tutu. He’s proud of his androgynous style: “What women wear. What men wear. For me, it’s not a question of that. If I see a nice shirt and get told, ‘But it’s for ladies.’ I think: ‘OK? Doesn’t make me want to wear it less though. I think the moment you feel more comfortable with yourself, it all becomes a lot easier. Am I sprinkling in nuggets of sexual ambiguity to try and be more interesting? No.”
