WHO spoke to blowout and makeup expert Leigh Dole about how to mimic the bobs of our current 2020 celebrity hair crushes
Why is the bob trending again? The bob is so on point right now. It’s sleek, it’s polished and it’s a versatile look for anyone and everyone. And what’s more, if styled right it can be rocked with any outfit day or night. What shape of face does it suit?
If done right, the bob is the perfect all-rounder. Bobs cut above the chin usually suit longer face shapes whereas bobs cut below the chin usually work for round face shapes. And always remember that longer bobs can be styled with tighter waves to create a shorter cut look, while shorter cut bobs are great when styled super sleek to create a longer look.
Who is your current hair muse? Reese Witherspoon – she can pull off anything. She went from long and blonde to short and dark (Morning Wars) and we absolutely loved the messy beachy waves from episode to episode. She never fails. What other hair trends are you predicting for 2020?
The bob is something we will see more and more of this year. With so many alternative styles and different ways of achieving this look, it will always keep adapting and remain modern and chic.
And definitely the undone messy tucked-behind-the-ear look is going to kill it in 2020.
MODERN MUSE
Another super sleek look which we predict will be big in 2020. Less is more with this hairstyle … use high shine blowdry creams when wet and blow it out until it’s super straight. Use tongs to flick out ends and strong hairspray when styling around face.
HOLLYWOOD SIREN
Classic, vintage waves are amazing in a bob and are the perfect look for a fancy function or event. Softly GHD wave hair all in one direction and comb out using a wide tooth comb, tucking behind one ear. It’s essential to finish the look with extra strong hairspray to keep the shape around the face.
SLICK STYLE
This works with any evening look. It’s great because it can be brought around the face to create shape when styled with a more simple dress. Alternatively, this hairstyle can be tucked behind the ears which works well with a more detailed/busy dress. Get the hair super sleek with a flat iron, use fingers to style behind ears and use a light styling cream or gel at the roots. Finish with hairspray through the ends to hold the glossy and sleek look.
CLASSIC LOB
This style is great to wear at an evening function or even day to day. A sleek blow, tucking under using an iron, finish with dry shampoo to keep the volume and longevity. It’s a flawless look that will take you through a few days after it’s been styled.
BOHO BOB
An ‘almost’ undone style creating that ‘I woke up like this’ look, we predict this will be huge in 2020. Lightly twist each section of the hair when almost naturally dried and blast with the hairdryer. Anything goes with this look. Finish with a texture spray to keep the messy undone look in place.
