WHAT: AVATUDE BLUE LIGHT BLOCKING COMPUTER GLASSES WHERE: AVATUDE.COM / AMAZON.COM.AU COST: FROM $39.95
I’ve been staring at screens for at least the past two decades – it comes with the territory of being a journalist. Even on my days off I’m always answering or reading emails and scrolling through my social media accounts. And yes, I also do this at night and do not (at all) adhere to the rule of no screens before bed (I have kids; it’s my alone time).
A study by contact lens manufacturer Acuvue found that the average office worker spends nearly 1700 hours a year in front of a computer screen, which means many of us are definitely getting too much blue light exposure from our devices. Blue light exposure is particularly not good for you at night, and has been linked to everything from obesity to insomnia and digital eye strain. I was interested to see if blue-light blocking glasses might help my tired, sandpaper eyeballs at the end of a day’s work.
Avatude’s glasses look nice, and you can choose different frame styles and colours. They use the highest quality UV420 blue-light blocking lenses. I used them on and off over a month and I definitely noticed my eyes felt better at the end of each day. I would especially notice the difference if I had a break from my computer and forgot to put them on for a while. My eyes would start to sting and get that crispy feeling and then, when I remembered to put the glasses back on, they would feel relief. For the cost of some movie tickets, they’re a worthwhile investment.
