Katy Perry has been on an emotional roller-coaster this week. Just days after sharing the exciting news that she and fiancé Orlando Bloom are expecting, the singer’s beloved nan, Ann Pearl Hudson, passed away, aged 99. In a clip she shared online, Perry, 35, can be seen telling her grandma: “I know you’re not feeling well, but I wanted to share some exciting news with you … I’m going to have a baby. I’m pregnant, Grandma.”
The star revealed her long-awaited baby news to the world on March 5 via the video for her new song ‘Never Worn White’, showing off her bump underneath a sheer gown. Shortly after the clip premiered, Perry confirmed the news to her 90 million Instagram followers, admitting: “It’s probably the longest secret I’ve ever had to keep … [but] I had to reveal it at some point. It’s getting pretty obvious.”
But now that the cat’s out of the bag, the star is putting her bump front and centre! Rocking a colourful, form-fitting Mara Hoffman dress, a “so jetlagged” Perry made her first appearance since the reveal in Melbourne at a March 7 photo call and rehearsal for her performance at the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup on March 8.
“I’ve been better,” she told fans, revealing that she had injured her wrist before her flight. “I sprained myself. My body is changing!”
The baby will be Perry’s first, while Bloom, 43, is already a father to 9-year-old son Flynn, whom he shares with ex-wife Miranda Kerr. “I love kids. She’s great with kids,” he gushed of his wifeto-be in an interview with
Howard Stern in September, revealing that babies were always on the cards for the pair.
Perry also confirmed that the bub was all part of their plan. “Well, it wasn’t on accident!” she told SiriusXM Hits 1 radio host Mikey Piff of the timing. “I’ve been kind of able to check off my list and dreams. We were both looking forward to this new interval of life.”
Perry – who headlined a bushfire-relief concert in Bright, Victoria, on March 11 – also opened up on Insta about her cravings, revealing she has a new-found penchant for chilli! “I literally never cared for spice, and now I have to carry Tabasco sauce in my purse,” she shared. “Foods that gross me out now are beef. I’m not really into red meat.”
The singer, whose 2010 wedding to comedian Russell Brand was a spiritual affair in India, recently opened up about her wedding plans with Bloom, telling Stellar she’s a “bridechilla”, not a bridezilla. Still, it hasn’t been a smooth road, with a source telling WHO the couple were all set to tie the knot in Japan but have had to postpone due to the spread of COVID-19.
“It was all set for Japan with 150 guests. Katy was actually really excited about walking down the aisle pregnant,” the source said. “They were both so elated that all the wedding details were finally coming together, but they are hitting pause.”
