AUTUMN ESSENTIALS with Elyse Knowles

Model and Myer ambassador Elyse Knowles sat down with WHO to talk all things fashion

What trends are ahead for autumn/winter fashion? Personally, I’m very much about the neutrals trend. I’d wear neutrals every day and they’re even throughout my home. I think there is a big ’90s retro trend coming through, which you can see at Tommy Hilfiger and Levi’s. The biggest trend coming out of New York Fashion Week would have to be layering – for example, a tee, a jumper, a blazer and a coat. It’s all about layering different textures while also being comfortable.

You feature in Myer’s ‘Layers of Me’ campaign. How important is self-care to you?

I think it’s really important to recognise the highs and lows in everyone’s life. There are a lot of things we put out there in the world that seem to be ‘perfect’, but everyone has vulnerabilities and sides to themselves they don’t want everyone to know about. So to me it’s about opening up and spreading the love far and wide, because everyone is going through something deep down. It’s really nice that Myer has created this campaign to really go in-depth into people’s lives and personalities and values to find out more about us. It’s also showing the younger generation that not everything is perfect and we are all real and that we need to get chatting about these things.

Has being a part of the campaign taught you anything about yourself in particular? Opening up and talking about things is big for me. I tend to bottle things up and then a couple of days or months down the road I explode. Talking with your friends and family is really important and something that I tend to forget.

How do you spend a cold winter’s day? Hanging around a friend’s house or at our house with a fire on outside, cooking yummy dinners for all of our friends, you know … and eating chocolate around the fire and just talking.

“IT’S REALLY IMPORTANT TO RECOGNISE THE HIGHS AND LOWS … EVERYONE HAS VULNERABILITIES AND SIDES TO THEMSELVES THEY DON’T WANT PEOPLE TO KNOW ABOUT.”
