MEGHAN’S NEXT MOVE
Return to Hollywood
Officially stepping back as members of the royal family this week, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry jumped head-first into their new normal. The pair and 10-month-old son Archie have left the borrowed $23 million waterfront mansion on Vancouver Island that they’d been holed up in since November, fleeing Canada via private plane before the borders closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. “Flights were stopping,” a source told UK’s The Sun. “They had to get out.”
Now they’ve settled into Meghan’s hometown of Los Angeles where they’ve been living in a secluded compound and haven’t ventured out. “Meghan knows the area very well and it puts her close to her team of PRs, business advisers and Hollywood agents,” the source says.
Another royal insider told the Daily Mail that this is the Hollywood ending Meghan had hoped for, even if it came at the expense of her husband’s happiness. “Harry has given up everything, literally everything,” said the source. “He has burnt every single bridge back at home. And Meghan? Well, I rather think she’s got what she wanted.”
Although not everything has swung their way. On Sunday, President Trump tweeted that his country would not be footing the pair’s enormous security bill. “I am a great friend and admirer of the Queen & the UK,” he posted. “The US will not pay for their security protection. They must pay!” The couple responded with a statement claiming: “The Duke and Duchess have no plans to ask the US government for security resources. Privately funded security arrangements have been made.”
And with Meghan’s first gig in the bag – narrating upcoming Disney+ documentary Elephant – they’ll have some funds. The project, which will benefit Elephants Without Borders, was recorded in London before Megxit, and demonstrates Meghan’s desire to stay in the spotlight while keeping the monarchy in her rear-view mirror. Before making their big move, another source told the Daily Mail that Meghan had issued her husband with an ultimatum – Archie and me are your family: “Harry had been hopeful of finding a way to marry his desire for more freedom with his royal heritage, but Meghan forced him to choose.” According to the report, Harry then informed his family, including the Queen, of his decision via email. “The Queen doesn’t deserve to be treated in this way,” sources told the Mail. “It’s easy to say Harry and Meghan have made their bed, let them lie in it. But what they have done will have ramifications for the family for possibly generations to come.”
On March 31, Harry and Meghan shared a statement on Instagram, thanking people for “the support, the inspiration and the shared commitment to the good in the world … As we all find the part we are to play in this global shift … we are focusing this new chapter to understand how we can best contribute.”
