THE PAIR ARE GEARING UP TO WELCOME THEIR LITTLE BUNDLE OF JOY
As the arrival of their baby girl draws near, Katy Perry and fiancé Orlando Bloom have been spending more time at their happy place: the beach. A source close to the actor says the couple have been travelling back and forth from their home in Los Angeles to Santa Barbara, Perry’s hometown.
“They enjoy the drive up the coast from Los Angeles,” the source says. “It’s a beautiful change of scenery for them.”
Previously, Perry, 35, and Bloom, 43, had been spending much of their time isolating at their home in Los Angeles, where the source says the singer “is still decorating the nursery and having fun with it.”
During a May appearance on The Graham Norton Show, Perry said she was “learning to be a mum fast” thanks to the family members staying with her, including her 9-month-old nephew, 3- and 6-year-old nieces and sometimes Bloom’s 9-year-old son, Flynn, whom he shares with ex-wife Miranda Kerr.
“Kids gravitate towards me through my music, so I am used to them,” she said. “But I am not used to being woken up really early in the morning by them staring at me from the side of my bed!”
Motherhood is something the singer has been looking forward to. “I’m that girl that had the box of baby clothes before there was even a thought or even an Orlando Bloom,” Perry said in March.
It hasn’t always been smooth sailing for the star. In a recent radio interview, the singer opened up about hitting rock bottom following her brief 2017 split from Bloom and her album Witness’ poor performance. “For me it was seismic,” she explained. “I had given so much out, and it literally broke me in half. I had broken up with my boyfriend, who is now my baby daddy-to-be. And then I was excited about flying high off the next record. But the validation did not make me high, and so I just crashed.”
The singer is in a much better place these days. With just weeks to go until her due date, Perry “seems less stressed but is definitely
a bit nervous about giving birth”, says the source. Meanwhile, Bloom is doing his best to keep his wife-to-be calm. “Orlando tries to be as supportive as possible,” the insider adds. One thing that’s keeping Perry distracted is coming up with a moniker for their bundle of joy. “We have a few names,” Perry revealed last month. “But I think we’re going to wait to meet her.”
Though their plans for a babymoon and a summer wedding were nixed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the silver lining has been the amount of time the couple have been able to spend with each other. “Katy loves that Orlando is not working and around all the time,” the source says. “She is super excited about her baby girl.”
