New life in tough times

-

Well, what a week it has been in Hollywood.

Glee fans were left reeling after actress Naya Rivera disappeared on a boating trip at Lake Piru on July 8. While family and friends had held out hope for the dedicated single mum, her body was found five days later – tragically on the seventh anniversary of co-star Cory Monteith’s death. You can read our report on Rivera’s tragic final moments on page 6.

Then our hearts broke again for beloved actress Kelly Preston, after it was revealed she had lost her private battle with cancer, passing away at the age of 57, with her husband of 28 years, John Travolta, by her side. His touching words are on page 10.

But in a week that has been marked by so much tragedy, it was comforting to be reminded that Hollywood is also on the cusp of a baby boom.

While Sophie Turner, Emma Roberts and Lea Michele are all pregnant with their first children, Katy Perry is just weeks away from giving birth to her daughter with fiancé Orlando Bloom. The 35-year-old looked beautiful as she went for a swim in Malibu on July 14 with another pregnant friend, while Bloom, 43, hit the water on his hydrofoil board.

The singer has been very open about her pregnancy journey and this week she shared the adorable nickname she’s given her unborn baby girl. “I call her Kicky Perry sometimes,” she laughed.

Perry has also been open about the roller-coaster ride that she’s endured during her pregnancy.

“I’ve been every emotion under the sun. I’ve been overwhelmed, I’ve been anxious, I’ve been happy, I’ve been overjoyed, I’ve been depressed. I’ve been all of it.

“The world is just a wild time and it’s a wild time to bring life into the world.”
