IT’S BEEN HEAVEN

Cameron Diaz’s life as a mum

-

It was only six years ago when Cameron Diaz admitted that she “was never drawn to being a mother”. But six months after welcoming daughter Raddix with husband Benji Madden, the 47-year-old has revealed she can’t imagine her life without her little one! The actress opened up about life as a new mum during an episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, telling the talk-show host that the 7-month-old is “the best thing that ever happened” to her and

her husband of five years.

“It’s been heaven, Jimmy,” she gushed to host Fallon, explaining that her daughter is growing “so fast” that she now understands why friends who have kids previously told her to cherish this time.

“Literally every single day, there’s just leaps and bounds ... and she’s not the same baby that she was yesterday,” Diaz shared. “Where was yesterday? Yesterday is literally gone, and today is a new day, and tomorrow will be a new day that she’s a completely different baby. But it’s so gratifying to actually get to see that growth and to be a part of it.”

Diaz and Madden welcomed Raddix via surrogate on December 30 last year, announcing the exciting news on Instagram on January 4. And while the pair have chosen to keep their daughter out of the spotlight for now – having not shared any pictures online or been spotted out in public with the newborn – that hasn’t stopped the star from gushing about parenthood.

“It’s just amazing,” she continued. “It’s the best thing that ever happened to both Benj and I. We’re just so happy.”

While Madden, 41, may be a musician, the star says their music choices at home have definitely changed since welcoming their daughter. “We have ‘Baby Shark’ on rotation,” she joked. “We have ‘Elmo’s Song’. We have Sesame Street. It’s crazy. We’re like jamming out over there, and she loves it!”

Diaz also shared that the Good Charlotte rocker has even penned a few songs for his baby girl – with the little one already having her daddy’s knack for rhythm. “It’s like she changes,” she says of her daughter listening to music. “When we go on car drives, Benj will put on some Cuban … Afro-Cuban music, and she is in her car seat and her little legs are kicking … and I’m like, ‘Yep, that’s my girl!’” While adapting to life with a baby is a challenge for most, the pandemic has added an extra hurdle for Diaz and Madden. “As new parents, they always felt very protective about Raddix. In the beginning, it was more like they wanted to protect her privacy and [didn’t want] her to be photographed. Now, their number one concern is for everyone to stay healthy,” a source explained to WHO’s sister publication People.

“They stay at home as much as possible and only go out for necessary errands.”

But although it’s been an interesting first seven months with their baby daughter, the pair have been on cloud nine and have put everything else on the backburner to focus solely on Raddix.

“This is their full-time job and they just want to be with their daughter,” adds the source. “They very much enjoy their new life with Rad.”

“I love being a mother. It’s the best, best, best part of my life,” Diaz gushed during an April Instagram Live video. “I’m so, so grateful and so happy and it’s the best thing ever and I’m so lucky to get to do it with Benji and we’re just having the best time.”
