MILEY SPILLS ON HER A-LIST EXES
THE SINGER OPENS UP ABOUT HEALING FROM OLD WOUNDS
Just a year after announcing her divorce from ex-husband Liam Hemsworth, Miley Cyrus is suffering from heartbreak once again after splitting from beau Cody Simpson. The singer – who started dating Simpson in October 2019 – confirmed the news during an Instagram Live session on August 13, telling fans they were taking time apart “to become the people that we wanna be”.
“Me and my boyfriend have broken up,” the singer admitted. “Right now, two halves can’t make a whole and we’re individually just working on ourselves. We’re just deciding who we wanna be in our lives, what we wanna do … We’ve been friends for 10 years and we’re going to continue to be friends.”
It’s been a whirlwind year for the star, 27. Last August, Cyrus and Hemsworth, 30, announced they were getting a divorce after only nine months of marriage. And it seems – despite a brief romance with Kaitlynn Carter, 31, and her 10-month relationship with Simpson, 23 – the singer has yet to heal from the breakdown of her marriage.
“I had a very public, very big break-up that was over a 10-year span of a relationship,” Cyrus told Call Her Daddy podcast host Alexandra Cooper, just days after confirming her split from Simpson. “It’s like a death when you lose a love that deep. It feels like a death. Honestly, sometimes [death] even feels easier because [with a break-up] the person is still walking on the earth.”
During the singer’s candid chat, she also revealed she had lost her virginity to the actor after meeting on the set of The Last Song in 2009 but didn’t tell her futurehubby for fear of looking like a “loser”. “I couldn’t think of anyone so I just made somebody up that I knew but we’d never actually had sex before,” Cyrus admitted. “It was a lie that I held onto for 10 years.”
Despite detailing the loss she felt after her relationship breakdown from Hemsworth, Cyrus admitted she doesn’t see their marriage as a failure. The singer recently debuted her new song ‘Midnight Sky’, and fans were quick to establish that it was about her split from the actor. “Lotta years went by with my hands tied up in your ropes (your ropes). Forever and ever, no more (no more),” she sings. “I was born to run, I don’t belong to anyone, oh no. I don’t need to be loved by you.”
“That ‘forever’, if it’s not successful or if you claimed something to be forever and you fail, then you’re a failure. And I just don’t think that,” Cyrus admitted following the song’s release. “I think that you’re just really setting yourself up to kind of be disappointed – and not from a bitter or resentful way, but from a realistic and logical standpoint, especially

in modern society. We’re changing and evolving and understanding ourselves from such a different perspective that it just feels like forever is definitely a big word.”
While Cyrus is still coming to terms with the divorce, Hemsworth isn’t the only ex she’s been struggling to move on from. Speaking about her love-life, Cyrus also hinted she still has feelings for Carter – with the pair sharing a brief fling last year. “I’ve been in love [with] one person, who is a girl, who I still think about and dream about all the time,” she continued.
The past few months have given Cyrus time to confront her demons following a tumultuous 2019. “I think one thing that’s been really cool about this time that we’ve all had is, I think originally we all started literally cleaning house,” she shared. “And then once you couldn’t do that anymore, you had to go into your own self and start cleaning out what you’ve been holding onto for too long – things that belong to you … and things that no longer serve you. That was really, really healthy for me.”
And while her love-life has been chaotic of late, a source tells Page Six the star is now “free as a bird and thrilled”. But if someone does come into her life again, she says they must be “living a sober lifestyle”. “I don’t really want to help someone on their journey of addiction, because I need to take care of my own self,” she added.
