BINDI’S GOING TO BE A MUM!
THE GOOD NEWS KEEPS ON COMING FOR THE NEWLYWEDS!
Just over four short months ago, Bindi Irwin and her new husband Chandler Powell were announcing they had tied the knot in a secret ceremony at Australia Zoo on March 25. And now, the newlyweds have some equally exciting news to share … they’re having a baby!
Irwin, 22, shared the news on Instagram on August 11, keeping in the theme of their wedding by sharing a photo of herself and Powell holding up a tiny Australia Zoo uniform. “Baby Wildlife Warrior due 2021,” she captioned the snap. “Chandler and I are proud to announce that we’re expecting!”
While Irwin admitted she was still in the early stages, the star said she couldn’t wait to share her announcement. “It’s an honour to share this special moment in our lives with you,” she added. “Though I’m still in my first trimester, we really want you to be part of our journey from the beginning of this new life chapter. We couldn’t wait to share the news as this beautiful little being has become the most important part of our lives. Your support means the world to us.”
Powell, 23, was equally as thrilled to share the news on his own Instagram account, admitting he was already smitten with his new role. “Becoming a dad is the highlight of my life,” he shared. “I cannot wait to embark on this new adventure and life chapter with my gorgeous wife, @bindisueirwin. Bee, you’re going to be the most amazing mother.”
The news was bittersweet for Irwin’s mum Terri, 56, who revealed she was “over the moon” but wished her late husband could be there to celebrate with them. “While I wish that Steve was here to share this beautiful moment, I know that he would be so proud,” she said.
While wildlife expert and TV personality Steve – who died after being pierced in the chest by a stingray barb in 2006 – wasn’t there to celebrate the couple’s milestones, they’ve made sure to keep his memory alive. At their wedding, which only had a handful of guests due to the pandemic, Irwin found the sweetest way to pay tribute to her father.
“Where we got married was such a special place to dad,” the star previously told WHO’s sister publication People of the garden at the Australia Zoo. “It’s a beautiful little area where he had filmed for many years. It felt really wonderful and just meant to be.”
A picture of the late Crocodile Hunter was also used during the ceremony, so that he could be right by their sides as they said their “I dos”.
“Mum and Robert were standing right next to dad as we exchanged vows,” Irwin added of her big day. “We had a candlelighting ceremony for him, and it really felt like he was there with us. It was a lovely moment of peace and happiness.” •
