Five minutes with … DANIELLE SPENCER
THE ACTRESS AND SINGER SAYS BARING ALL IN A VERY REVEALING NEW ROLE IS NERVE-RACKING
After watching her mother Julie battle breast cancer, it didn’t take Danielle Spencer long to sign up for The All New Monty: Guys and Gals. “It’s such a great cause. My mother had breast cancer, as have several of my aunts and friends, and so I wanted to do what I could to encourage people to get checked,’” the 51-year-old told WHO.
But Spencer admits her sons Charles, 16, and Tennyson, 14, whom she shares with former husband Russell Crowe, weren’t impressed when they found out she was going to strip on stage.
What were you most nervous about? I’m quite fond of dancing on stage, so for
me it was absolutely the getting naked in front of an audience part that I was most nervous about.
How comfortable are you in your skin?
I’m not comfortable with public nudity at all, so this was a first for me. And to do it in front of such a large audience was incredibly daunting.
How did you explain to your sons that you would be starring in the TV event?
I sat them down and explained I was doing something that would involve me being a stripper – obviously they weren’t excited by that at all. I then explained to them the cause and the reasons I wanted to participate, and they agreed and have been very supportive.
Did you know any of your fellow strippers before the show?
I had met Patti Newton and Georgie Gardner before, and I knew Todd McKenney from Dancing with the Stars, but I hadn’t met any of the other girls before.
How did you feel at the end?
I think we all felt an enormous sense of relief and accomplishment.
What would you say you got out of participating in it?
I had the chance to work with an incredible group of ladies on a project that is so very important, and have a lot of fun!
