J.LO SCRAPS HER LAVISH WEDDING

SCRAPPED WEDDING PLANS AND BUNGLED BUSINESS DEALS HAVE THE COUPLE’S RELATIONSHIP ON TENTERHOOKS

The pandemic has taken its toll on a number of Hollywood relationships and Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez are no exception. The couple, who got engaged in March 2019, were forced to postpone their dream wedding in Italy earlier this year, with the singer, 51, admitting it was a massive blow.

“There’s no planning right now,” she told the Today show in May of their abandoned wedding plans. “You just have to kind of wait and see how this all plays out, and it’s disappointing on one level … we had a lot of plans for this summer and this year. But everything’s kind of on hold right now.”

Despite admitting she was devastated by the cancellation, the singer tried to remain positive. “I’m a little heartbroken because we did have some great plans. But I’m also like, ‘You know what? God has a bigger plan.’ So we just have to wait and see,” she added. “Maybe it’s going to be better. I have to believe that it will be.”

But five months on, the pair are still no closer to locking in another date. Instead J.Lo and the former baseball player, 45, have turned their attention to adding to their growing empire – with the couple currently locked in a bidding war for the New York Mets baseball team. But things don’t look good on that front either, with another buyer said to have the upper hand with an incredible $3.2 billion bid.

“It ain’t over until it’s over,” Lopez told The Post on September 8 of their decision not to surrender. “We are New Yorkers and we’re not going to give up. We feel we have the best bid for the sport, the team and the city.”

The stress of the bungled business deal has had unexpected repercussions, by putting them both in a “pretty foul mood”, according to insiders. “The Met sale falling through has been a massive disappointment, and since then, neither of them has shown much energy towards picking a provisional wedding date,” an insider close to the pair told Heat magazine.

And while their respective social media accounts show the couple looking loved-up while spending the majority of lockdown in their Hamptons homes with Lopez’s 12-year-old twins Max and Emme, and Rodriguez’s daughters Natasha, 15, and Ella, 12, insiders say it’s a very different story behind closed doors.

“Jen and Alex are going through a rocky patch,” the Heat insider admits of the pair. “They’re two fiery personalities who are now walking on eggshells around each other. You get the sense that it’s only a matter of time before one of them blows.” •

With millions of dollars between them, Lopez and Rodriguez aren’t used to things not going their way. And things appeared very tense between the couple as they disembarked a flight in New York City on August 30.
